PM Modi set to become India’s third most successful PM: Ramachandra Guha

India

Narendra Modi is all set to become the third "most successful" Prime Minister of India after Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi, celebrated historian Ramachandra Guha has said, asserting that the 66-year-old leader's "charisma" and "appeal" transcend the boundaries of caste and language.
Speaking at the ongoing London School of Economics (LSE) India Summit 2017 here, 58-year-old Guha said Modi's "authority" and "Pan-Indian vision" put him on the same pedestal as that of Nehru and his daughter Indira.
"We live in a time when Narendra Modi is poised to become, and perhaps already is, the third most successful Prime Minister in Indian history. He is the only one you would place on par with Nehru and Indira in terms of authority that he exudes and the Pan-Indian vision he commands," Guha said yesterday.
"Since Nehru and Indira there has been no Indian Prime Minister who has had that authority, that sense of command, that charisma, that cross caste, cross linguistic, cross regional appeal in India," he said.
Deliberating on Indian political history, Guha noted that caste system and discrimination against women were two of its "indisputable facts".
He alleged that both Islam and Hinduism, the two major religions of the sub continent, "grievously" discriminate against women.
"Caste system is the most rigorous, most diabolical system of social stratification ever invented by humans and we Hindus invented it.
"The second indisputable fact is that Islam and Hinduism in their scripture and their social practice grievously discriminate against women," Guha said at the 3-day summit which began yesterday and is organised to commemorate 70 years of India's independence.
Guha, who was Philippe Roman Professor of History and International Affairs at LSE IDEAS in 2011-12, also spoke on LSE's long and rich historical relationship with India.
He said the prestigious institution has had more "substantive" and "enduring" impact on the intellectual, social and political history of the 20th century than Oxford and Cambridge.
"If you look at Sociology, Philosophy, Anthropology and Public Policy, LSE has had a definitive and formative impact. It has had a great influence on the world and a major influence on India," he said.

Happy Birthday Kangana Ranaut: Queen Of Bollywood

Kangana Ranaut and Amitabh Bachchan

Kangana Ranaut or the Queen of Bollywood turns 30 today. So a warm and prosperous happy birthday to her. Over the years Kangana has achieved what many outsiders are still striving to achieve in the industry. Without having a godfather or any filmy connections, the actress has managed to make a mark in the industry. From being a meek girl from Himachal to becoming a fiery motor mouth that she is today, Kangana has come a long way in bollywood. And with the career choices she has made in the last few years, she has proved that she is here to stay. Her Bollywood journey is commendable and it wouldn’t be wrong to say that Kangana has achieved all the fame and success on her own merit.

The actress has been preparing hard for the Rani Lakshmibai biopic and looks like she will start shooting for it on her birthday itself. Kangana celebrates her 30th birthday on March 23 and instead of having a party, she has decided to keep herself busy with work. She will slip into the warrior queen’s fierce avatar and face the camera. As per sources close to the star, Kangana will shoot for the first poster of Manikarnika this Thursday, post which she will start shooting for the movie in the coming few months.

Kangana’s biggest achievement so far is that not only high-ranking directors like Bhardwaj think of her as a muse and customise characters for her, but also that she has brought respectability to the Hindi film heroine who suffered the most in the 90s. There was a time when Madhubala, Nutan, Meena Kumari and Madhuri Dixit powered films on their own, without being a prop for the male star. Kangana has proved that she is a hero who doesn’t need a Khan by her side to race to the Rs 100 crore box-office. But the trouble is, she isn’t an outsider anymore. She is fully co-opted into Bollywood. That’s why when she accuses the bigwigs of the movie business, one finger points back at her. Instead, it would be refreshing to see how she takes her popularity to the next level. It would be equally refreshing to see her move from dominating gossip columns and scandalous sections of newspapers to some place more meaningful. And what that place might be, only Kangana Ranaut can define.

Priyanka Chopra Celebrates Holi With Jimmy Fallon His Show With Indian Colours

If last year, Priyanka Chopra celebrated Holi with her Quantico co-stars, this time she chose Jimmy Fallon to become her partner-in-crime on the festival of colours. Priyanka, who graced The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon for a second time, played Holi with the host of the show and left him surprised. It looks like Priyanka and Jimmy had a great time throwing some colours at each other. Taking to Twitter, PeeCee wrote, “This was so fun @jimmyfallon my fav part besides ur shocked face after I got u wit a big blob of face paint was @theroots playing #rangBarse” Sharing another picture of the host, she wrote, “And a happy Holi to u too @jimmyfallon im a little less homesick now! I got u good… again!!!”

The last time Priyanka appeared on the show, she won against the host in an apple-bobbing contest. The game involves sticking your face in a barrel and taking out apples only using your mouth. Whoever has the maximum apples, wins. And of course, our desi girl won, putting Jimmy in a state of shock.

Happy Birthday Aamir khan: 'Mr Dependable' Khan Has Single-Handedly Turned Cinema Into a Lucrative Corporate Industry

Aamir khan birthday will be special this year. It comes in the wake of Dangal’s record-smashing success, proving once again that strictly statistically speaking, Mr Perfectionist Khan is the Ambani of the movie industry. Besides giving the dwindling trade magazines their moment in the sun with prominent pundits rattling off daily figures, calculations and tallies (the film touched an impressive Rs 380-crore mark making it one of the highest grossing Hindi films of all time) not any different from anxious pollsters spending sleepless nights over UP or Bihar elections, Dangal also wowed the critics.

There was occasional criticism from some quarters, which felt Khan’s “heavy-handed message-mongering” – to borrow critic Jai Arjun Singh’s phrase – weakened an otherwise gripping entertainer. Any viewer who has watched Khan over the years would agree that in the last decade, his films have followed a well-thought out script. He picks a powerful and relevant theme packing one hour of entertainment in it and one of social message.
